Pscholka Landfill Legislation Meeting Set For Wednesday

The State House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday will hear more about legislation designed to hold landfills more accountable for violating odor rules. State Representative Al Pscholka has introduced House Bill 4783 to increase the fines they pay when they break the rules and end up subjecting nearby residents to unpleasant odors. The bill is in response to the ongoing issue with the Orchard Hill Landfill near Coloma.

House Bill 4783 would increase penalties for a first violation to 25 thousand dollars a day and subsequent violations to 75 thousand dollars a day when a landfill doesn’t do enough to cover up the smell. Pscholka’s invited Coloma and Watervliet area residents to come to Lansing for the meeting to show their support.
