One community in Berrien County has placed on a new list of the safest places in Michigan to live. Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township shows up at number eleven on the ranking from SafeWise, an organization that works to educate the public on safety issues. SafeWise used FBI crime statistics to come up with its list, calculating the chances of there being violent or property crimes committed per one thousand people. It says that the community’s police department deserves a lot of the credit for making the area a safe place to live, for engaging in regular efforts to engage the public and remaining transparent. The top five safety communities with more than five thousand people in Michigan, according to SafeWise, are Raisin Township, Thetford Township, Kinross Township, Grosse Ile Township, and Milford.
