The Berrien County Sheriffs Department says that good samaritans helped save a woman from a boat that was leaking carbon monoxide Sunday, although one man was still killed in the incident. Undersheriff Chuck Heit says that 53 year old Leonard Russian and 45 year old Lorri Mroz, both of Cass County, were out on the boat off of Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor when its exhaust system started leaking carbon monoxide. Russian was killed, but Mroz managed to get up top and call for help.

Listen:

63 year old Richard Cook, of Granger, Indiana, was on a boat nearby and came to the woman’s aid, although he was injured, too, and had to be hospitalized. Heit says that Cook has since been released, and Mroz was expected to recover and be released from Lakeland Hospital soon.
