Berrien Co. Health Dept Encourages New Mothers To Breastfeed This Month

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, when health departments across the country remind new mothers of the benefits of breastfeeding their newborns, and the Berrien County Health Department is celebrating with the theme “Breastfeeding and Work: Let’s Make it Work!” It highlights the need to support women who combine breastfeeding with work. WIC dietician Cierra Pfotenhauer says that new mothers have a right to pump in the workplace.

The health department also reminds mothers and employers of the health benefits to the baby when it’s breastfed, and that research has shown a new mom’s productivity will be higher if she’s given support on the issue at work.
