A 14 year old girl from Illinois is getting national attention for her plan to swim across Lake Michigan in an effort to raise money for the fight against cancer. Jillian Bacon, of Park Ridge, Illinois, is part of a 20 member relay team that intends to swim the 43 miles from Chicago to Michiana, south of New Buffalo. She says that she’s been training every day for her part of the swim, and thinks she’s ready for the challenge, while her mother is a bit nervous but proud. The Chicago Open Water Swim with team “It’s Better with Bacon” is part of the Swim Across America fundraising effort. The goal of Jilllian’s group is 400 thousand dollars, and so far, it’s raised 355 thousand. It’s not too late to donate, either. Just go to SwimAcrossAmerica.org, and search for “It’s Better With Bacon.” Jillian’s swim was to have begun on Friday, but had to get postponed due to weather. They haven’t decided yet which weekend to use in August.
