Two young people are recovering after they were injured by fireworks in Benton Harbor on Tuesday afternoon. The department of public safety says that officers were called out to a home in the 600 block of Pavone about 1:55 PM. They got there to find a 14 year old and a 12 year old, one with an injury to his face and the other with his hand blown off by a homemade explosive device. Both minors were hospitalized, and their conditions were not immediately available. The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety wants to emphasize that playing with fireworks is dangerous, and fireworks should always be used according to their instructions and under the supervision of an adult.
