You can now call Benton Harbor OutCenter Interim Director Mary Jo Schnell its Executive Director following an announcement from the organization’s board of directors this week. Schnell has been in the interim position for the LGBT advocacy group since late 2012, and says that she’s “over the moon” to be picked for the job on a permanent basis. She’s looking forward to continuing to help make communities around southwest Michigan safer for LGBT residents.

The OutCenter board said in a statement that Schnell has headed up the restructuring of programs like the Teen Pride Program and the LGBT+ Cultural Competency Training during her time there. Schnell says that she plans to relocate to Benton Harbor following the news after having commuted from Chicago the past few years.
