Frost Taking Big Bite Out Of Northern Michigan Tart Cherry Crop

The tart cherry crop in northern Michigan is taking a big hit this year from a recent frost. Sandy Rennie of Rennie’s Orchard in Williamsburg, which is just north of Traverse City, says he is expecting to lose half of his crop this season. Rennie says most of his friends in the region are looking at the same damages, and he says there are a combination of factors.

While Rennie says his estimated crop loss could improve, he remains optimistic. He says while he will have fewer cherries in 2015, they will be bigger than last year’s fruit.
