Permit Sought For New Foster Girls Home In Benton Harbor

The Benton Harbor City Commission next month will be asked to approve a special land use permit for a new home for foster girls planned to open on Pipestone Avenue. This week, the planning commission gave its approval for the new Hope, Love and Grace Girls Home, which is being organized by Yaszdi Rockette, a licensed child care provider in the city. She says that the home will aim to help girls between 12 and 17 who aren’t doing well in the usual foster homes.

The home would be administered by Rockette’s daughter, who has a master’s degree in educational leadership. Rockette says that she and her husband adopted four children who were wards of the state over the years, and she wants to open the new home to help give some love and kindness to the girls who need it most. If the city commission grants it approval, Rockette hopes to have the new facility open in August or September in a building previously used by the Berrien County Health Department.
